Ourika Valley (120 km round trip)

Green, riverside and refreshingly cool in summer, the Ourika road winds past Berber villages and waterfall cafés to Setti Fatma. It is the gentlest of the classic rides — ideal for a first day on an unfamiliar motorcycle.

Lalla Takerkoust & Kik plateau (90 km)

Lakeside curves, the Kik plateau balcony road and Moulay Brahim gorge combine into the area’s best half-day loop. Quiet tarmac, big Atlas views, plenty of café stops.

When to Ride Each Route

Timing changes everything in the Atlas. The Tizi n’Tichka is open all year but can see snow flurries from December to February — check conditions with us the night before and carry a windproof layer even in spring, because the summit is regularly fifteen degrees colder than Marrakech. Ourika and Lalla Takerkoust shine in summer when the city bakes: leave at 8 AM, swim or lunch by the water, and ride home in the golden hour. Agafay is at its best from October to April; in July choose a sunset departure and watch the stone desert turn copper.

Fridays are noticeably quieter on rural roads until early afternoon. Sunday brings local day-trippers to Ourika — if you want those switchbacks empty, ride them midweek.

Practical Notes from Our Guides

Fuel is never a problem on these routes — every one passes at least two stations — but mountain ATMs are rare, so carry small cash for cafés and parking gardiens (5–10 dirhams). Police checkpoints are common and friendly: slow down, lift your visor, and you will almost always be waved through. Speed cameras do operate on the N9 before the pass, and the 60 km/h village limits are enforced.
